01
Open the Chameleon settings and launch the wizard
- Start in Chameleon Settings and open the refresh/status area.
- Launch the installation wizard for OpenClaw.
- The point of the wizard is to avoid doing most of the setup manually in the command line.
02
Check prerequisites and refresh if needed
- The wizard first checks for prerequisites, especially Node.js.
- If a prerequisite is already installed, it will show as available.
- If the next step does not appear immediately, use Refresh to update the wizard status.
03
Run the install command in Command Prompt as admin
- Copy the command shown by the wizard.
- Open CMD as Administrator.
- Paste and run the command.
- This is the main command-line step; the rest is handled through the wizard.
04
Install OpenClaw and return to the wizard
- Let the installer finish setting up OpenClaw on the system.
- Once complete, go back to the wizard.
- If the wizard does not advance automatically, refresh it and continue.
05
Start the gateway
- Approve the prompt to allow the gateway to run.
- The gateway may restart or show command-line activity during setup.
- This is expected and part of the normal installation flow.
06
Set up the MCP agent
- Move to the Set up agent step.
- This configures the MCP agent that OpenClaw uses through Chameleon.
- This setup is safer and easier than using OpenClaw directly in a Linux or CLI-heavy environment.
07
Choose and validate the AI provider key
- Select Anthropic/Claude as the provider in this walkthrough.
- Paste in the API key.
- Click Validate key and wait for the system to confirm the connection.
- The gateway may restart during validation; that is normal.
08
Select the model
- After the key is validated, choose the model.
- Continue once the model is set.
09
Configure messaging: use Telegram for multiple instances
- The wizard supports messaging integration.
- WhatsApp is easier to connect, but it does not work well for multiple OpenClaw instances.
- For multiple instances, use Telegram instead.
- Uncheck WhatsApp and use Telegram as the default.
10
Create a Telegram bot in BotFather
- In Telegram, search for BotFather.
- Create a new bot.
- Give it a name and make sure the username ends with
_bot.
- Copy the bot token provided by BotFather.
11
Paste the Telegram bot token into Chameleon
- Return to Chameleon.
- Paste the token into the Telegram Bot Token field.
- Submit and pair the bot token so Chameleon can connect to Telegram.
12
Approve the requester with the pairing code
- Open the newly created Telegram bot and send it a message.
- Telegram returns a pairing code.
- Copy that code carefully, making sure there are no extra spaces or line breaks.
- Paste it into Approve Requester and confirm.
13
Wait for gateway restart and verify status
- The gateway may restart several times while the configuration is finalized.
- Wait until the status shows the Telegram connection is bound and ready.
- Some intermediate warnings can be ignored while the system finishes verifying.
14
Test the connection by sending a message
- Send a simple test message like Hi.
- Confirm that OpenClaw responds in Telegram.
- This verifies the MCP connection is working end to end.
15
Confirm the MCP is healthy and ready
- Finish the wizard's final step.
- The system should report that the Chameleon MCP is connected and healthy.
- Core capabilities like launching, listing, creating, deleting, folders, and automations should be online.
